Workshop: Children’s books: a creation process with Roger Mello, Friday 18th September 10 am to 3 pm. Grafia ry, in collaboration with Kuvittajat ry is organizing an illustration workshop led by Brazilian children’s book illustrator Roger Mello. There are 15 spots for Grafia members and 15 spots for Kuvittajat members. Registration for Grafia’s autumn courses opens on Tuesday, August 18th at 10:00 am in the Grafia online store. (NOTE! Purchasing a member course requires logging into the member area first.) Roger Mello is a illustrator, writer, and theater director. In 2014, he won the Hans Christian Andersen Award in the Illustrator category, an honor considered the Nobel Prize of children’s literature. He have received the Chen Bochui Award in China, the Space Enfants World Award in Switzerland, the National Library Award in Brazil (as a writer), and the Brazilian Book Chamber’s Jabuti Award ten times. He view the children’s book as a broad, multifaceted object where image, word, and design interact to create something multifaceted, interactive, and dialogic—engaging the reader, who also emerges as a co-creator. Tools / way of working: (What participants need to bring with them.)Suggested materials include acrylic paint, brushes, scissors, and colored paper for collage.
