The exhibition call is open to professionals and working groups in the field of visual communication design. You may apply for an exhibition at Luonnos Gallery, located in Punavuori, or at the smaller satellite gallery, Luonnos-ikkuna, situated in the display window of Ympyrätalo in Hakaniemi. Luonnos exhibitions aim to spark topical discussion and create space to showcase the wide spectrum of visual communication design. The annual open call is open to both professionals and students. Applicants of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Application instruction (previous open call) All applications must be submitted through the online application system by April 29 2026 at 23:59. Late, incomplete, or externally submitted applications will not be considered. Selections are made by a rotating curatorial team. You may apply individually or as a group. Please carefully review the separate instructions for Luonnos Gallery and Luonnos-ikkuna, as their practices differ. For Luonnos gallery applicants Luonnos gallery is located in central Helsinki at Uudenmaankatu 13. The space is not accessible. The street-level exhibition space is approximately 20 m², and the back workshop area is 15 m². Please note that exhibition plans must be limited to the exhibition area. Luonnos is open from Wednesday to Friday 12–17, weekends 12–16. ─── Grafia membership is not required for the exhibition applicants. However, Grafia members who are selected will not be charged exhibition rent or fees. Non-members will be charged an exhibition fee of €1000 per exhibition. If you are applying for an exhibition slot as a group, it is enough that one group member is a Grafia member to receive the benefit. If you wish to join Grafia, you may apply for membership during the application period. Mention in your application that you have applied for membership. An exhibition slot at Luonnos gallery or Luonnos-ikkuna can be granted at most once every three years. If you are also applying for Grafia’s summer 2026 grants, please note that you cannot receive both a grant and an exhibition slot in the same year. Exhibition costs are not eligible for separate grants from Grafia. Grafia pays a copyright fee of €300 (VAT exempt) per exhibition at Luonnos gallery. ─── The exhibitor is responsible for installing the exhibition with the Luonnos staff. At the end of the exhibition, the applicant is responsible for dismantling the exhibition and restoring the exhibition space. The applicant commits to supervising the exhibition for one weekend (Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 4 PM). The applicant is responsible for insuring the works when necessary. A person is always supervising the space during the exhibition’s open hours. Grafia does not charge a commission on any works sold during the exhibition. Grafia is interested in organising events related to the exhibition content (e.g., workshops, lectures, performances) with the exhibitor. Grafia is responsible for production scheduling and exhibition communications in Finnish and English across its channels, as well as opening arrangements and window decals. It opened for exhibitions in January 2025 and is best suited for small-scale exhibitions or installations. ─── Only Grafia members may apply for Luonnos-ikkuna, either individually or as a group. For group applications, at least one member must be a Grafia member. You may apply for membership during the application period. Please mention this in your application. No exhibition fee or rent is charged for Luonnos-ikkuna exhibitions. Grafia does not pay a copyright fee for these exhibitions. An exhibition slot at Luonnos-ikkuna or the gallery can be granted at most once every three years. Receiving a Luonnos-ikkuna exhibition slot does not affect eligibility for other Grafia grants. However, exhibition costs are not eligible for separate grants. It must clearly demonstrate the connection to visual communication and creative design, and explain why the exhibition is suited specifically to Luonnos Gallery or Luonnos-ikkuna.You may apply with new or existing works. Applications can be submitted in Finnish or English. Indicate if you are applying with the same project to other venues or if the exhibition has been shown elsewhere. Provide a clear and realistic breakdown of costs. The exhibitor is responsible for material, production, and transportation costs. Grafia provides basic tools and equipment, but any special installation materials must be arranged by the exhibitor. Travel, accommodation, and similar expenses are not reimbursed. Please explain how you plan to cover the exhibition costs.
