Welcome to open the final week of the Graphic Designer of the Year 2025 Exhibition on Saturday 1 November at 4–6 pm. Aikaan piirrettyjä viivoja (Lines Drawn In Time) group exhibition is curated by Päivi Helander and one of the themes focuses on birds – their fascination, symbolism and significance in changing ecosystems. At the finissage, the last piece of the exhibition, Linnut (FIN), will be published, which is an audiovisual installation created by Merle Karp. Hints of bird vignettes visit to complement the composition of the exhibition, and a soundscape constructed from Louhisaari’s field recordings enlivens the fragrant reed wall in the gallery space. The birds’ spurts, resting moments and feeding convey sadness for the departure of migratory birds and the biodiversity loss of bird species. As birdsong concerts in the spring become increasingly sparse, more of our nature experiences may depend on recorded media. Merle Karp is a visual designer and media artist, whose practice stems from VJ expression. She is finishing her Master’s degree at Aalto University. Through the means of audiovisual expression, installation art and information design, she deals with questions related to the environment and nature from the perspectives of biodiversity loss, imagination and mythology. The book called Aikaan piirrettyjä viivoja was published as a part of the exhibition and can be purchased from Luonnos during the exhibition. All the profits will be donated to charity – half to the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation to protect the living space of birds, and half to the work of Médecins Sans Frontières in Gaza. 20.9.–9.11.2025 The Graphic Designer of the Year 2025 exhibition:Päivi Helander – Aikaan piirrettyjä viivojaLuonnos – Creative space by GrafiaUudenmaankatu 13, HelsinkiWed–Fri 12–17, Sat–Sun 12–16, free admissionread more about the exhibition
