Fill in the Grant of Rights to KopiostoWe recommend that you fill in the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto, because the annual copying licence remunerations Grafia receives are based on the Grants of Rights assigned to it.When you give the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto, Kopiosto will take care of your interests and rights when your images are copied from printed matter or online or are used in TV programmes. Kopiosto monitors on your behalf that you are paid for the use of your work, that your works are used with permission and that your copyrights are respected.We recommend that you fill in the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto, because the annual copying licence remunerations Grafia receives are based on the Grants of Rights assigned to it. The copying remunerations are used to fund Grafia’s grants and for Grafia’s communication, training and copyright advice and legal assistance.Grafia represents visual creators at KopiostoGrafia is a member organisation of Kopiosto. Kopiosto represents 80,000 Finnish creators, authors, publishers and performing artists through its member organisations.Kopiosto sells licences for the responsible use of works protected by copyright. Kopiosto pays copyright remunerations to copyright holders either directly or through the member organisations that represent them.Kopiosto pays the remunerations for the copying, printing and scanning of books, magazines and online publication to its member organisations, such as Grafia. Grafia distributes the remunerations to visual creators in the form of grants, communication and advisory services etc.Kopiosto pays the remuneration accrued for the secondary use of TV programmes directly to the creators of the programmes.Kopiosto monitors on your behalfKopiosto monitors the use of works on the basis of the Grants of Rights from copyright holders. With the Grant of Rights, you authorise Kopiosto to grant on your behalf licences for the re-use of your works. Kopiosto ensures that your copyrights are respected and your works are used with your permission.The Grant of Rights to Kopiosto covers the mass use of works, for example, in educational institutions or other situations where it would be practically impossible for individual creators to agree on the use of their works themselves.The Grant of Rights to Kopiosto does not affect the agreements you have made with your employer or your customers. Kopiosto does not sell licences for the publication or other commercial use of images, such as printing them as posters.What is the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto?With the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto, the rightsholders of copyrighted works, i.e. the creators and publishers, authorise Kopiosto to grant the rights for the reproduction of their works.This authorisation allows you to have your rights and interests in relation to the reproduction of your works taken care of by Kopiosto on your behalf.The Grant of Rights is given to one of Kopiosto’s member organisations, such as Grafia. Each of Kopiosto’s member organisations represents a different sector of the creative industries. Each organisation collects the Grants of Rights only in certain capacities that correspond with the creators in its sector.If you produce several types of work (for example, non-fiction books and cartoons), you should assign the Grant of Rights separately to each of the member organisations representing the field of your work. Thus, you can assign the Grant of Rights to more than one Kopiosto member organisation, but only once in a certain capacity.The Grant of Rights given to a member organisation remains valid indefinitely. The authorisation does not expire automatically if you, for example, leave a member organisation, unless you explicitly withdraw or change the authorisation. You can update the authorisation by adding new capacities if you wish.Your publishing contracts or related copyrights, or contracts with your clients or employers, are not affected by the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto.Who can assign the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto?You can give an authorisation to Kopiosto with the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto, if you are a creator of texts, images or sheet music in printed and/or online publications such as books, magazines or online articles.If you produce several types of work (for example, non-fiction books and cartoons), you should assign the Grant of Rights separately to each of the member organisations representing the field of your work. Thus, you can assign the Grant of Rights to more than one Kopiosto member organisation, but only once in a certain capacity. You can update the authorisation by adding new capacities if you wish.You assign the Grant of Rights to a member organisation representing your creative work, such as Grafia. You can assign the Grant of Rights to an organisation you are not a member of. Once assigned to a member organisation, the Grant of Rights remains valid indefinitely and does not expire automatically, if you, for example, leave the organisation, unless you explicitly withdraw or change it yourself.Your publishing contracts or related copyrights, or contracts with your clients or employers, are not affected by the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto.The Grant of Rights is usually assigned to a member organisation whenyou become a member or you want to enjoy the benefits offered by the organisation, such as the grants it provides.A significant part of the grants distributed by the member organisations and some of their other services are funded through the copyright remunerations paid to the organisations by Kopiosto. The grants funded by the organisations’ Kopiosto remunerations are open to all creators in the sector, regardless of membership.Assigning to Grafia the Grant of RightsGrafia represents visual creators at Kopiosto, so you should assign your Grant of Rights as a visual creator to us. Grafia collects Kopiosto authorisations with two different Grants of Rights. If you create images for printed publications or websites, you give your authorisation with the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto.The Grant of Rights to Kopiosto covers the re-use of images and texts published in printed matter or online. If you produce graphic design or illustrations for television programmes or films, you give your authorisation to Grafia with the AV Grant of Rights. The AV Grant of Rights covers the re-use of television programmes, such as the recording of programmes in homes and educational establishments as well as the educational use of programmes.Use the Kopiosto Authorisation Service to assign to Grafia the Grant of Rights.Click Kopiosto Authorisation Service. Use your Finnish online banking codes to sign into the service. On your first visit, you will need to register for the service. You can add or update your details. After registering, log in as a private customer. After identification with banking codes and saving your contact details, you will be transferred to the Authorisation Service. You can see any authorisations you have previously given on the first page of the service. Click “Add new authorisation”. Select Grafia as the member organisation and choose either the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto or the AV Grant of Rights. If you produce images for both printed publications and online as well as for TV programmes issue both a Grant of Rights to Kopiosto and an AV Grant of Rights. You can assign the Grant of Rights to several different member organisations of Kopiosto. However, you can only assign the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto or the AV Grant of Rights in the same capacity to one organisation at a time. Grafia collects Grants of Rights for the capacities of a graphic designer, illustrator, visual creator, cartoonist and photographer.If you want to make changes to a previously issued Grant of Rights, go to the “View” button on the frontpage of the service, log in to your Grant or Rights and send a request for changes to Kopiosto’s office from the message field at the bottom of the Grant of Rights page.Updating your Grants of RightsAt the beginning of 2023, Kopiosto added new categories of rights to the Grant or Rights to Kopiosto following amendments to the Copyright Act. Authors and image creators must update their existing Grants of Rights.It is easy and takes just a few minutes to approve the update for the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto in the Kopiosto Authorisation Service. Log in to the service using your online banking codes. Use Chrome, Edge or Safari Browser to update your Grant of Rights. Ensure that you are using the latest version of the browser.Log into the Authorisation Service at https://kopiostoextra.fi/valtuudet. Once you have saved your user details, you will see a list of all your valid authorisations on the front page of the service. There is an exclamation mark next to the Grant of Rights that needs to be updated. Press “View” to open the Grant of Rights.
