Lahti International Poster Triennial’s 50th Anniversary: Identity Poster Competition

The Lahti International Poster Triennial was founded in 1975. It is considered one of the world’s most prestigious poster exhibitions and the best in the field participate from around the world. The 22nd International Poster Exhibition is one of Lahti Museum of Visual Arts Malva’s summer exhibitions in 2025, simultaneously celebrating the 50th anniversary of the poster exhibition.

The competition brief is to design an identity poster for next summer’s international exhibition and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Poster Triennial. The competition is open to all Grafia members and visual communication design students. The competition will run from March 1st to April 29th, 2024. The competition is organized by Grafia, the Julisteen ystävät guild, and Lahti Museum of Visual Arts Malva.

Rules for the Lahti International Poster Triennial 2025 Identity Poster Competition:

  1. The competition will run from March 1st to April 29th, 2024.
  2. The main message of the poster is the poster triennial exhibition. The poster triennial celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025. The poster should also epitomize and celebrate the event’s long history.
  3. If participating in the competition as a group, the group should agree on terms regarding sharing rights before submitting their work. The individual who submits the work assures that the entry does not violate the rights of others, is not a copy, and has not previously been published.
  4. The identity poster will be used in print (i.e. on the cover of the exhibition catalog), digitally, and in outdoor marketing. The title of the exhibition must be visible enough for outdoor spaces. The motif of the identity poster must also work as a horizontal banner.
  5. Each poster should include both the Finnish and English text. Sponsor logos will be added to the final poster.

  6. Entries must be submitted electronically by April 29th, 2024 at 4PM. Each poster should be designed as a 70 x 100cm (300 dpi) image, but the submitted entry can be a smaller file, with a maximum file size of 10MB.
  7. The main prize of the competition is 2000 €. In addition, three honorable mentions will be chosen to receive a 500 € award each. The prize money will cover the editing of the poster, making it ready for publication.
  8. Competition jury: graphic designer Pekka Piippo, graphic designer and triennale chairman Marion Robinson, graphic designer Klaus Welp, Grafia’s executive director Katri Soramäki, Malva’s assistant Hanna Suihko and Malva’s spokesperson Petra Hasila.
  9. The winners of the competition will be contacted individually by June 7th, 2024 and the winners and the winning posters will be published on Grafia’s channels.
